Looking Up to See My Childhood in Yokohama

I never imagined that one day I would see hundreds of drones forming Pikachu's face in the night sky in real life. But it really happened. On August 11, 2023, on a summer night in Yokohama, the sky was filled with childhood memories.

This wasn't just a simple light show; it was the kind where you look up and think, "Wow, this doesn't feel real." Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard, Mew, Poké Balls, and those silhouettes that you'd only remember from watching TV as a kid—they were all there in the sky, glowing and moving, gradually forming images. It was like watching a Pokémon movie made of light dots.

What moved me the most wasn't the technology, but the moment when everyone let out a collective "Wow!" Whether they were adults, children, couples, or passersby, everyone seemed to return to their childhood. No one was playing with their phones or applying filters for social media; everyone was simply looking up, completely captivated.

I stood in the middle of the crowd, taking photos and quietly exclaiming in awe, almost moved to tears. At that moment, I suddenly realized that growing up isn't such a bad thing—you can decide to love something you once liked again, and this time, you don't have to do it secretly.

That night in Yokohama was truly gentle, and the breeze was just right. I think sometimes, a drone performance can make you fall in love with the world again.
